Dubai Police athletes to promote clean sport in anti-doping awareness drive

Around 400 Dubai Police athletes across 29 sports will take part in a program designed to protect their health and promote clean sport. The athletes will also serve as ambassadors, raising awareness among sportspeople and the wider community about prohibited substances and potentially harmful supplements.

Dubai Police will launch the program alongside the International Forum on Combating Doping in Sport on September 17. The forum will bring together experts from the Dubai Sports Council and the UAE National Anti-Doping Agency to exchange experience and strengthen awareness of anti-doping practices.

Lieutenant Colonel Salem Bin Ghalaita said the timing was deliberate. Dubai Police chose the start of the sporting season, when most competitions begin between September and October. The initiative will begin with police athletes before extending its message to gyms, homes and the wider community.

The forum will cover updates from the World Anti-Doping Agency on permitted and prohibited substances and practices, the national anti-doping authority’s role and procedures, and the risks linked to sports supplements. Dubai Sports Council development director Omar Al Balushi said some athletes may use supplements in good faith without realizing that products or ingredients can contain substances banned under international rules.

Al Balushi said the event would update athletes on current regulations and clarify what sport permits. He also called for Dubai’s local laws and federal legislation to work together within a clear, unified framework for regulating doping.
