Duffel Swimming Pool Likely Closed All Week Due to Chlorine Tank Leak

The municipal swimming pool in Duffel is likely to remain closed for the rest of the week following a significant chlorine leak. The incident occurred Tuesday morning when a leak developed in the pool's chlorine tank, located in the technical room.

Firefighters from the Rivierenland zone responded to the call around 11 a.m. They reported that about 150 liters of chlorine had leaked out. The fire department managed to pump out the leaked chlorine and temporarily seal the leak.

As a precautionary measure, approximately 15 swimmers and staff members were evacuated from the facility. Firefighters emphasized that there was no immediate danger to those evacuated, as the system was not functioning correctly due to the leak, but safety protocols were followed. No injuries were reported.

The pool's technical installation requires thorough repairs. The municipality has stated that the timeline for these repairs, and consequently for the pool's reopening, is not yet clear. Residents will have to wait for further updates on when the facility will resume operations.
