Dump Truck Wheels Detach, Strike Taxi in Taiwan

A startling incident occurred on Nankan Road Section 2 in Luzhu District, Taoyuan City, Taiwan, when two rear wheels suddenly detached from a moving dump truck. The detached wheels rolled forward due to inertia, striking a taxi in front of the truck and a factory's iron gate.

Dashcam footage of the event circulated online, with one netizen exclaiming it was like a "roadside flying dagger." Fortunately, no one was injured in the bizarre accident. The dump truck was being driven by a man surnamed Lu. When he reached the section of road heading towards Dayuan, the two left rear tires of his dump trailer suddenly came loose.

Police responded to the scene and administered alcohol tests to both drivers, with both registering zero blood alcohol content. The exact cause of the accident is still under investigation. The dump truck driver was issued a citation for violating Article 30-1, Paragraph 1 of the Road Traffic Management and Penalty Act, which pertains to vehicle parts detaching while in motion. The penalty can range from a fine of NT$1,000 to NT$6,000.

Authorities are urging operators and drivers of large vehicles to meticulously perform safety inspections before driving, ensuring all components and loads are secure. The Luzhu Precinct Police stated they will continue to strengthen checks and enforcement for large vehicles within their jurisdiction to protect the lives and property of road users.
