Duplantis wins in Poland despite three missed attempts

Pole vaulter Armand Duplantis secured victory at the Diamond League event in Chorzów, Poland, clearing 6.20 meters. The win came despite an uncharacteristic performance that included missed attempts at three different heights.

Duplantis began his competition by clearing 5.65 meters and 5.90 meters on his second tries. He then successfully cleared 6.00 meters on his first attempt. At this point, he was tied for third place with Norway's Sondre Guttormsen and Greece's Emmanouil Karalis, who also cleared six meters without prior misses.

The Swedish star faced further challenges at 6.10 meters, missing his first attempt before succeeding on his second. Karalis opted to skip this height. Guttormsen was eliminated after failing to clear six meters, narrowing the competition to Duplantis and Karalis.

The decisive height was 6.20 meters. Karalis, who had never cleared this height before, failed to do so in the competition. Duplantis, however, succeeded, definitively securing his win. Following his victory, Duplantis raised the bar to 6.32 meters, an attempt at his own world record, but failed. His current world record remains 6.31 meters.

This marks Duplantis's third competition in just eight days. He recently won the European Championship last Sunday and the Diamond League meet in Lausanne on Thursday.
