Durango police officer injured by colleague's stray bullet during shift change

A state police officer in Durango, Mexico, sustained a leg injury after being struck by a ricocheting bullet fired by a colleague during a routine arms disarmament. The incident occurred early Tuesday morning at approximately 5:40 a.m. within the facilities of the State Public Security Secretariat, during the shift change.

According to the Secretariat, the officer, identified as Daniel “N,” 25, was performing the standard safety protocol of disarming his service weapon, a .40 caliber pistol, in the designated containment area. However, the bullet accidentally ricocheted off the sand trap, striking his colleague, officer Adriana “X,” 37, in the lower left leg.

The injured officer was promptly transported to the ISSSTE Clinic for medical attention. Specialists are evaluating her condition, which is currently reported as stable. The Secretariat referred to the event as a "workplace incident."
