Durosinmi set to become Genk’s record signing

Nigerian striker Rafiu Durosinmi is on the verge of becoming KRC Genk's most expensive signing in club history. Belgian club Genk has reportedly agreed to a €10.5 million (approximately N16.6 billion) deal with Italian side Pisa for the 23-year-old forward.

The transfer fee, which includes performance-related bonuses and a 10% sell-on clause for Pisa, is set to eclipse Genk's previous record transfer of €7 million, paid to Celta Vigo for Theo Bongonda in 2019. Durosinmi only joined Pisa in January from Czech club Viktoria Plzen for an estimated €9 million but failed to make a significant impact, scoring just once in 12 appearances.

Pisa's relegation from Serie A prompted the decision to cash in on the Nigerian striker, allowing the club to recoup most of their investment while retaining a stake in his future transfer. Genk, known for its success with Nigerian forwards, is betting on Durosinmi rediscovering the form that made him a highly-rated prospect in the Czech Republic.

The club has a strong track record with Nigerian strikers, including Paul Onuachu, who became a prolific scorer before moving to the Premier League, and Tolu Arokodare, who won the Belgian Pro League Golden Boot. Standing at 1.92 meters, Durosinmi fits the profile of a powerful center-forward that Genk has traditionally developed. The move could also enhance his chances of representing the Super Eagles, Nigeria's national team, adding another young attacking option to the squad.
