Durosinmi targets Belgian Golden Boot

Nigerian striker Rafiu Durosinmi has set his sights on clinching the Belgian Pro League's Golden Boot award, following an impressive start to the season with his club, Genk. Durosinmi scored Genk's opening goal in their 2-1 defeat against Zulte Waregem on Sunday and earned the Man of the Match title, despite his team's inability to secure a victory.

Despite the team's disappointing opening weekend performance, Durosinmi is focused on individual achievement. "I want to score, I want to finish high in the standings, and I also want to go for the top scorer title. I have always dreamed of that," Durosinmi told DAZN. The 25-year-old Nigerian international is determined to establish himself as Genk's primary attacking threat.

Durosinmi aims to follow in the footsteps of fellow Nigerians Paul Onuachu and Tolu Arokodare, both of whom have previously finished as the Belgian top-flight's leading scorers. Arokodare's 14 league goals for Genk in the 2024/25 campaign serve as a benchmark, and Durosinmi, having already opened his account, needs 13 more goals to match that tally.

While his individual performance was a bright spot, Durosinmi acknowledged the team's overall struggle. "Of course I would have preferred to win, because then this would have been a great moment to celebrate," he said. He will have another opportunity to add to his goal count when Genk hosts Westerlo at the Cegeka Arena on Saturday, as he pursues the top-scorer prize he has long dreamed of.
