Ecuador drops two spots in FIFA rankings after World Cup 2026

Ecuador has slipped two positions in the latest FIFA world rankings, falling from 23rd to 25th place, ending a nearly ten-month stay within the top 24. This decline is attributed not only to Ecuador's performance but also to the significant advancements of other nations that impressed during the 2026 World Cup.

Norway experienced one of the most dramatic ascents, jumping 12 spots from 33rd to 19th. As a revelation of the tournament, the Scandinavian team reached the quarterfinals, notably eliminating Brazil, with Erling Haaland playing a key role. Egypt also surpassed Ecuador, climbing five places from 29th to 24th after reaching the Round of 16 and putting up a strong challenge against Argentina.

Spain, the World Cup champions, has returned to the No. 1 position in the FIFA rankings. Their 1-0 victory over Argentina in the final propelled them back to the top spot, which they had previously lost in April. Spain now holds 1,995.88 points after winning seven and drawing one match in the tournament. Argentina follows in second place with 1,970.37 points, and World Cup semifinalist France is third with 1,948.97 points.

The updated rankings also saw Mexico enter the top 10 at tenth place after reaching the Round of 16. Conversely, Germany dropped out of the top 10 following a disappointing World Cup campaign. Norway's impressive climb marks the most significant upward movement in the entire classification.
