Ecuador offers 50% driver's license renewal discount for good drivers

Ecuador's National Transit Agency (ANT) is implementing a significant incentive for safe driving: a 50% discount on driver's license renewals for motorists who have maintained a perfect record. This benefit, part of a reform to the Transit Law, rewards drivers who have not incurred any traffic violations and kept their full 30 points throughout their license's validity.

This incentive rewards good driving practices. Those who maintained 30 points and committed no infractions during the five years of the license's validity can access the benefit.

The discount will be automatically applied when users generate their payment order through the ANT's online portal. For example, the cost for a Type B license will drop from $68 to $34 for eligible drivers. The ANT emphasized that this measure aims to acknowledge and encourage good driving practices, recognizing those who have adhered to traffic rules for the five-year term of their license.

This incentive is part of the benefits contemplated in current legislation to recognize compliance with traffic regulations by drivers.

In addition to the license renewal benefit, the ANT is also reminding the public about an upcoming deadline for settling unpaid traffic fines issued before August 9, 2021. Citizens have until August 1, 2026, to regularize these outstanding amounts. The agency stated this offers a final opportunity to clear old debts before they are blocked in the system and subject to collection procedures, including potential coercive collection after the deadline.
