Ecuador's Electoral Council Prepares for Candidate Registration

Ecuador's National Electoral Council (CNE) is moving into the candidate registration phase for the 2027 sectional and Council of Citizen Participation and Social Control (Cpccs) elections. This stage follows the CNE's oversight of 482 internal elections held by political organizations to select their candidates for mayor and prefect positions.

The official candidate registration period is scheduled from August 2 to August 17, 2026. Prior to this, the CNE supervised the internal elections, ensuring compliance with candidacy requirements. Of the 482 internal elections monitored, 303 were conducted by national political organizations, and 179 by local groups and alliances.

Following the internal elections, CNE delegates will compile technical reports detailing their supervision activities. These reports will be accompanied by acceptance letters from all pre-candidates who participated in the internal processes. The CNE has emphasized that the candidate registration process is a central phase of the electoral calendar, formalizing the contenders who will appear on the ballot for the 2027 elections.
