Ecuador shines as guest of honor at Lima Book Fair 2026

Ecuador is showcasing its rich culture as the guest of honor at the 30th International Book Fair of Lima (FIL Lima), which runs from July 22 to August 6, 2026. The nation's participation features an immersive central pavilion and a delegation of 40 authors, presenting a cultural offering that integrates literature, music, and biodiversity.

The literary event, a significant gathering in Peru and Latin America, opened its doors with a strong Andean identity. Ricardo Muguerza, president of the Peruvian Chamber of the Book, highlighted the fair's consistent growth over three decades. This year's edition honors the memory of the late writer Alfredo Bryce Echenique and commemorates the 100th anniversary of the renowned poet Blanca Varela.

Ecuador's pavilion is designed as a symbolic journey through the country, incorporating iconic elements like the equator line, its volcanic landscapes, and characteristic biodiversity. Fabián Luzuriaga, president of the Ecuadorian Chamber of the Book, stated that they will share over 700 titles and 2,000 copies with the Peruvian public. "We hope that those who visit this pavilion not only read our books but also symbolically travel through Ecuador. A country can be read, and when a country stops being read, it stops being known," Luzuriaga emphasized.

The Ecuadorian delegation includes prominent national figures such as former president Rosalía Arteaga, Leonardo Valencia, María Fernanda Heredia, and Álvaro Samaniego, among others. The inauguration was further enhanced by a musical performance from the Loja Symphony Orchestra. The Vice Ministry of Culture noted that this participation aligns with the National Policy for the Promotion of Reading, Orality, and Access to Books, a governmental strategy aimed at strengthening the publishing ecosystem and promoting Ecuadorian literature internationally.
