The FEF stated that these acts undermined fair play, unity, and equity, and called for greater guarantees and attention to unsportsmanlike conduct.

While the specific nature of these acts was not detailed, reports indicate that Ecuadorian team members faced disturbances. Mexican fans reportedly gathered outside their hotel the night before the match, engaging in chants and setting off fireworks. Additionally, aggressions against Ecuadorian fans and press were reported at the Estadio Azteca during and after the game.
