Edo begins forest guards training June 5

The Edo State Government is set to commence a six-week training program for its newly recruited forest guards starting June 5, 2026. The training will be held at the Police Training School, Ogida Barracks, in Benin City.

The Edo State Government hereby announce that the training for newly recruited Forest Guards, will commence on Friday, June 5, 2026 for 6 weeks.

All candidates who have successfully passed their profiling by the Department of State Services (DSS) and completed their medical screening at Edo Specialist Hospital are required to report to the training facility by 5:00 p.m. on June 5. They are advised to come prepared with all necessary documentation and adhere to the training facility's protocols. Further details on additional training facilities will be provided upon arrival.

This state-level initiative mirrors a broader national effort, as President Bola Tinubu recently announced plans to recruit 1,000 forest guards to patrol forests and provide early warnings against banditry and insurgency.
