Edo Queens win Super Six to emerge 2026 NWFL champions

Edo Queens Football Club has been crowned the 2026 champions of the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) after topping the Super Six competition in Port Harcourt. The Benin-based team clinched the title on Sunday, finishing the tournament with 10 points from five matches.

Their decisive final game against Bayelsa Queens ended in a 0-0 draw, a result sufficient to secure the championship due to a superior goal difference. Edo Queens recorded three wins, one draw, and one loss throughout the competition. Bayelsa Queens also finished with 10 points but settled for second place.

It has been a rewarding season for us after winning the trophy. Despite losing the first game, they picked themselves up and did Edo proud. I commend them.

Coach Moses Aduku commended his players for their strong performance and determination. Despite an opening game loss to Nasarawa Amazons, the team rallied to secure the title. Aduku also expressed gratitude for the support from the Edo State Sports Council Chairman, Amadin Enabulele, and the people of Edo State.

Enabulele emphasized that the victory signifies more than just winning a trophy, highlighting the club's role in discovering and nurturing talent for the state. He thanked Governor Monday Okpebholo for the opportunity to serve and assured continued commitment to the state's sporting development.
