Edo schools to re-open Monday

The Edo State Government has directed that schools temporarily closed due to security concerns will reopen on Monday, June 15, 2026. The directive follows a comprehensive review of the security situation by state authorities in collaboration with security agencies and stakeholders.

Governor Monday Okpebolo had previously ordered the temporary closure of Ososo Grammar School, Ososo Comprehensive High School, and Makeke Secondary School in Akoko Edo. This action was taken after the Department of State Security issued an alert regarding planned bandit attacks on some schools within the state. The government stated that enhanced security measures and additional safety mechanisms have been deployed across affected communities and schools.

"The government is satisfied that the necessary arrangements have been put in place to ensure the safety and well-being of learners, teachers and other school personnel and the schools should be re-opened on Monday June 15," the circular stated. All affected public and private schools are instructed to resume normal academic and administrative activities.

School heads, proprietors, and education authorities have been advised to prepare for the safe return of students and staff. They are also to maintain close collaboration with security agencies, community leaders, and government officials to sustain a secure learning environment. The state government reassured parents and guardians of the deployed security measures and pledged continued monitoring to protect lives, property, and the education sector. Parents and guardians are urged to ensure their children promptly return to school to continue their academic pursuits.
