Education Ministry of Kyrgyzstan highlights SCO educational cooperation

The Ministry of Education in Kyrgyzstan highlights the significant role of cooperation within the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) framework for advancing the nation's education system. This collaboration is built upon the 2006 Agreement on Cooperation in Education among SCO member states' governments, which has facilitated expanded academic exchanges, joint educational programs, and scientific collaboration.

Kyrgyzstan benefits from educational quotas for its citizens to study at Chinese universities annually. The SCO University, a network of leading universities from member states, also includes eight institutions from Kyrgyzstan, contributing to the development of the international educational space. In 2025, a Kyrgyz delegation participated in the ninth meeting of SCO Education Ministers in Urumqi, China, where key documents were adopted to further educational cooperation, academic mobility, and the training of specialists.

Hosting the SCO summit in 2026 is anticipated to be a pivotal moment for Kyrgyzstan, fostering international partnerships, broadening opportunities for young people, and enhancing the global competitiveness of its education sector. The ministry also announced the SCO International Camp for Young Scientists in 2026, aimed at developing youth scientific potential and promoting knowledge exchange among member states. Participants will be students aged 16-19 interested in science, technology, and innovation.

In preparation for the 2026 SCO summit, Kyrgyzstan's educational institutions will postpone the start of the 2026/27 academic year to September 15.
