Education Ministry settles debate over postponing the 2026 school year

Egypt’s Education Ministry has ended speculation over a possible delay to the 2026-27 school year, saying classes will begin according to the previously approved calendar.

Public, private, official language, national and Egyptian Japanese schools will start on Saturday, Sept. 12, 2026. The academic year is scheduled to continue until Thursday, June 24, 2027.

International schools follow a different timetable. They began the new school year on Sept. 6, about a week before most other schools. Universities and institutes will begin classes on Saturday, Sept. 19, under the approved schedule.

The school calendar includes about 183 actual teaching days, divided between 93 days in the first semester and 90 in the second. The school year will last about 39 weeks. At universities, the first semester will run for 15 weeks and end on Dec. 31, followed by final examinations.
