Egypt's Foreign Minister urges caution, evidence-based conclusions on Damietta port incident

Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry has called for restraint and a focus on evidence concerning the incident involving two ships at Damietta port. He stressed that any accusations or the dissemination of unverified information must be avoided while Egyptian authorities conduct their ongoing investigations.

Speaking on the sidelines of the conference for Egyptians Abroad, Shoukry stated that the primary message is the necessity of awaiting the conclusion of investigations by official Egyptian bodies before leveling accusations or spreading rumors about the circumstances of the incident. He underscored the importance of carefulness in publishing any preliminary information.

Shoukry affirmed that any discussion of the event must be grounded in specific information and conclusive evidence, which is precisely what the relevant Egyptian authorities are working to establish through their current investigations. He reiterated that the concerned bodies have not yet finalized the necessary investigations to fully understand the incident's details. Therefore, he urged against preempting the outcomes or circulating narratives unsupported by evidence.
