Eid-el-Kabir: AbdulRazaq, Saraki, others pray in Kwara

Thousands of Muslim faithful converged at the Central Eid Prayer Ground in Ilorin, Kwara State, to observe Eid-el-Kabir prayers. The significant gathering on Wednesday saw the presence of prominent political figures, including Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, former Senate President Bukola Saraki, and Senator Saliu Mustapha.

I congratulate the Muslim community in Kwara State and across Nigeria on the blessed occasion of Eid-el-Adha 1447 AH. We thank Allaah for giving us the grace and opportunity to witness yet another celebration.

The prayer session commenced at 9:40 a.m., led by Imam Imole, Abdullahi Abdulhamid, followed by the symbolic slaughtering of a ram, a traditional rite. This year's celebration was particularly poignant as it marked the first major Eid gathering in Ilorin since the death of the 12th Chief Imam of Ilorin, Sheikh Bashir Saliu, who passed away in January 2026 after serving the community for over four decades.

Governor AbdulRazaq congratulated Muslims in Kwara State and across Nigeria on the occasion of Eid-el-Adha 1447 AH. He urged the faithful to embrace the virtues of sacrifice, patience, and peaceful coexistence, emphasizing that the festival's true lessons should not be lost. "Eid is a period of deep reflection and thanksgiving," he stated, encouraging attendees to imbibe patience, sacrifice, steadfastness, belief, and submission to God.

He also paid tribute to the Emir of Ilorin, Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, praying for continued peace and unity within the Muslim community. The governor further described Eid as a season for charity and a renewed commitment to humanity, urging everyone to look out for one another. Greetings were also extended to Kwara State pilgrims in the holy land, with prayers for acceptance of their worship and safe return.
