Eid-el-Kabir: Police deploy bomb disposal teams to Abuja worship centres, others

Ahead of the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations, the Federal Capital Territory Police Command has implemented heightened security measures, including the deployment of Explosive Ordnance Disposal teams to worship centers, recreational facilities, and other public venues. This proactive step aims to ensure a peaceful and incident-free holiday period across the FCT.

The Command, in collaboration with the military, Department of State Services, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Federal Road Safety Corps, and the Nigerian Immigration Service, has launched "Operation Sweep FCT." This joint security arrangement involves continuous patrols and coordinated operations across strategic sectors to prevent and respond to criminal activities.

As part of its preventive strategy, the police will conduct proactive sweeps of areas expected to host large gatherings. Additionally, intelligence-led operations and raids on identified drug hotspots are ordered, with strict directives for officers to act professionally and within legal boundaries. The Commissioner of Police emphasized the importance of increased police visibility, prompt response to emergencies, and strong community engagement, warning against unprofessional conduct.
