Eid-l-Kabir: Army alerts North-east residents of suicide bombing, IED attack plots, deploys troops

The Nigerian Army has issued a stark warning to residents in the North-east region regarding credible intelligence of planned suicide bombings and Improvised Explosive Device (IED) attacks by Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists. These threats are anticipated to occur ahead of the Eid-l-Kabir celebrations.

In response, the Headquarters of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), a joint task force, has confirmed the deployment of troops and enhanced surveillance assets across the theatre of operations. The advisory highlights that insurgents may attempt isolated attacks on civilian targets, particularly in densely populated locations during the festive period. The Army assures the public that comprehensive security measures are in place to ensure peaceful celebrations.

"Credible intelligence available to the Command indicates the possibility of isolated attempts by remnant Boko Haram Terrorist (BHT) and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) elements to exploit the festive period to carry out attacks against civilian targets using suicide bombers and IEDs, particularly in areas of high population concentration," stated Sani Uba, the joint operation spokesperson.

Troops have been strategically positioned in critical and vulnerable areas, with Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) assets fully activated. Security forces are intensifying patrols and collaborating with sister agencies, the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), and community vigilance groups to prevent any security breaches. Residents are advised to remain vigilant, limit unnecessary movement, especially at night, and conduct Eid prayers and festivities close to home. They are also urged to avoid large gatherings, report suspicious individuals or objects, and refrain from spreading unverified information. Traditional rulers, religious leaders, and community stakeholders are called upon to support security efforts through timely intelligence sharing.
