Eight charged in Nepal Children Organisation’s fund embezzlement case

A case has been filed at the Kathmandu District Court against eight individuals accused of embezzling funds from the Nepal Children's Organisation. The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police has brought charges against several former officials and chapter chairs.

Among the accused are Asha Shrestha, former chief of the Planning and Scholarship Division; Rajendra Kumar Shrestha, former secretary of the Kathmandu District Working Committee; and Om Krishna Karmacharya, former chair of the Lalitpur chapter. Also named are Yuri Kumari Rai, former chair of the Bhojpur chapter, and Deepak Das Shrestha, former deputy treasurer.

Further defendants include Prayagraj Shrestha, former treasurer; Bhagwan Shakya, former chair of the Kathmandu district chapter; and Ram Krishna Chitrakar, former adviser to the Lalitpur chapter. While Asha Shrestha, Rajendra Kumar Shrestha, and Om Krishna Karmacharya are in police custody, the remaining five individuals are reportedly absconding.

The chargesheet alleges that one of the accused received double benefits despite holding public office. The other defendants are accused of obtaining financial assistance from the organization in contravention of its statutes and existing financial regulations.
