Eight killed in Gaza strike on funeral procession

Eight people died in Gaza when an Israeli airstrike hit a funeral procession on Friday. Health authorities in the Gaza Strip reported that 20 others were injured in the attack in Nuseirat. The Israeli military stated the strike targeted a cell of the militant group Islamic Jihad. The military added it is "aware of the claims that several unaffiliated people were injured as a result of the attack" and is clarifying the circumstances. The militant Hamas movement condemned the Nuseirat attack as a "brutal massacre" against mourners. Elsewhere in Gaza, Israeli airstrikes killed at least three more people. In an area near Deir al-Balah, Israel used drones to warn residents of an impending attack, prompting many families to flee their homes. A ceasefire has been in effect between Israel and Hamas since October, but over 1100 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli strikes since then. Five Israeli soldiers and one civilian employee have died since the ceasefire began.
