Eighteen rescued from Lod apartment fire, including infants and elderly

Eighteen people, including four infants and several elderly residents, were rescued from a fire that erupted in an eight-story apartment building in Lod early Saturday morning. Firefighters successfully contained the blaze to the first floor, preventing its spread throughout the structure.

The fire, which authorities suspect was caused by an electrical cabinet on the ground floor, filled the entire building with smoke. This necessitated extensive rescue operations by emergency crews.

Magen David Adom (MDA) teams treated 15 individuals for smoke inhalation at the scene. These individuals were subsequently transported to local hospitals for further medical observation and care. No fatalities have been reported in connection with the incident.

An investigation into the exact circumstances surrounding the fire is currently underway, according to official statements.
