Businesses in the small town of Mōkau are facing significant hardship due to the recurring complete closures of State Highway 3, which runs through the Awakino Gorge. This vital route serves as the primary connection between the Taranaki and Waikato regions, and its repeated inaccessibility is taking a toll on the local economy.
