Ekiti 2026: APC hails Supreme Court judgment affirming Oyebanji’s candidacy

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State has lauded the Supreme Court's decision that validates Governor Biodun Oyebanji's candidacy for the governorship election. The party celebrated the verdict as a triumph for internal democracy, the rule of law, and the collective will of its members in the state.

The judgment has finally laid to rest all legal issues surrounding the Governor’s candidacy and has further strengthened the legitimacy of the landslide mandate given to him by Ekiti people on June 20.

The APC urged all party faithful and stakeholders to embrace unity and rally behind the governor as he continues to implement his development agenda. The legal challenge, initiated by a governorship aspirant, Abimbola Olawunmi, contested the outcome of the party's primary election that selected Oyebanji as the candidate. This matter had previously been addressed by the High Court and the Court of Appeal, both of which had ruled in favor of Oyebanji.

In its unanimous judgment, the Supreme Court dismissed Olawunmi's appeal, upholding the appellate court's decision. The APC, through its State Publicity Secretary Segun Dipe, stated that the judgment definitively resolves all legal questions surrounding the governor's candidacy. It further strengthens the legitimacy of the broad mandate granted to Oyebanji by the people of Ekiti on June 20.
