Ekiti APC seeks unity after S’Court affirms Oyebanji’s candidacy

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State has called for unity among its members and stakeholders following the Supreme Court's affirmation of Governor Biodun Oyebanji's candidacy. The apex court's unanimous judgment dismissed an appeal filed by a former governorship aspirant, Abimbola Olawunmi, thereby settling all legal disputes surrounding Oyebanji's nomination.

The judgment has finally laid to rest all legal issues surrounding the Governor’s candidacy and has further strengthened the legitimacy of the landslide mandate given to him by Ekiti people on June 20.

The case, which had previously been ruled in Oyebanji's favor by both the High Court and the Court of Appeal, challenged the outcome of the party's primaries. The APC hailed the Supreme Court's verdict as a triumph for internal democracy and the rule of law, emphasizing that it strengthens the legitimacy of the mandate given to Oyebanji by the people of Ekiti.

In a statement, the party congratulated Governor Oyebanji, commending his "humility and magnanimity" throughout the legal process. The APC highlighted that despite winning the primaries and the general election by a landslide, Oyebanji remained focused, peaceful, and inclusive. The party urged all members to view the judgment as a call for greater unity and to support the governor's agenda for "shared prosperity."

The statement also extended thanks to the judiciary for upholding justice and protecting democracy, and acknowledged the support of President Bola Tinubu and the National Working Committee.
