Ekiti orders allottees to develop plots or forfeit titles

The Ekiti State Government has issued a firm directive to allottees of government residential estates, demanding that development commence on their plots by August 30. Failure to comply will result in the revocation of allocations and forfeiture of titles to the government.

Some allottees in the estates have exceeded the approved period for developing their allocated plots, leaving many sites abandoned, undeveloped and overgrown.

Professor James Olaleye, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Lands, Surveys, and Geographic Information System, stated that numerous plots across estates in Ado Ekiti, Ikere Ekiti, Ikole Ekiti, Ijero Ekiti, and Omuo Ekiti have remained undeveloped and overgrown for extended periods. This neglect has created environments conducive to criminal activities, posing security risks.

Olaleye urged affected allottees to take immediate action to develop their properties to adhere to the government's land administration policies. The directive aims to ensure the effective utilization of land resources and prevent the creation of security loopholes.

In a related matter, the government also cautioned individuals encroaching on the designated site for a new stadium along Iworoko Road in Ado Ekiti. It warned that any new structures erected on the land would be forfeited, emphasizing the government's inventory of existing structures and its commitment to the stadium project.
