El Nacional faces potential six-point deduction amid financial crisis

The Ecuadorian football club El Nacional faces the risk of a six-point deduction in the Serie B league as it awaits a crucial notification from the Ecuadorian Football Federation (FEF). The club is on the brink of this sanction due to outstanding debts, but is seeking to avoid it by securing a financial amnesty from its creditors.

Juan Manuel Aguirre, the club's administrator, indicated that while agreements have been reached with most creditors, three have sent their acceptance directly to the FEF. He is awaiting the FEF's notification to confirm if the full acceptance of creditors will prevent the penalty. "Charles Vélez, José Hernández and Juan Grabowsky sent directly to the Ecuadorian Football Federation (FEF), I am waiting for that report because they did not notify the club. If there is total acceptance from the creditors, there will be no sanctions," Aguirre stated.

Aguirre is working to secure a financial amnesty until a definitive board is in place, with elections anticipated by late October. The club's debt is estimated to be around $12 million, stemming from civil, labor, and sports lawsuits, as well as obligations to institutions like IESS and SRI. The club's financial instability has led to administrative changes, with Aguirre appointed as administrator after the departure of Ricardo Cajas and the subsequent inability to register a new board led by Liliana Yunda.

Aguirre also expressed hope that the Ministry of Sport will issue the new Sports Law in early August, which would allow for the convening of an Electoral Assembly and initiate a two-and-a-half-month electoral process. The club's financial situation has been a persistent issue, with previous reports confirming the debt figure and its gradual reduction.
