Elderly Macedonian couple, 61 and 71, become parents for first time after IVF

A 61-year-old woman and her 71-year-old husband have become parents for the first time following a successful in vitro fertilization (IVF) procedure, the "Dr. Organdžiski" Gynecology and Obstetrics Hospital in Stip announced. The hospital's gynecologist and obstetrician, Stojan Organdžiski, described the case as an exceptionally rare medical achievement on a global scale due to the parents' advanced ages.

Organdžiski explained that the successful IVF procedure, which resulted in the birth of a healthy baby boy, was made possible through the use of donor eggs and a hysteroscopic reconstruction of the mother's uterus. He noted that the father, who is Spanish, and the patient, who live and work in Switzerland, welcomed their child via Cesarean section in Zurich. Organdžiski, who managed the case from its inception, highlighted the significant additional reproductive challenges posed by the father's age.

"This exceptionally rare and complex medical success is not only due to the mother's age but also the father's age of 71, which represents a significant additional complicating reproductive factor," Organdžiski stated. "Behind this result lies more than three decades of hope and an unfulfilled desire for their own child."
