Elderly Man Steals Bicycle After Argument Over Filming Family's Traffic Violations

An argument over filming traffic violations escalated into a bicycle theft in New Taipei City, Taiwan. A 71-year-old man, identified as Mr. Lu, forcibly took a bicycle belonging to a 38-year-old man, Mr. Huang, after confronting him for filming.

The incident occurred when Mr. Huang was using his mobile phone to record traffic violations along Jingping Road in Zhonghe District. He captured footage of Mr. Lu's daughter riding a scooter on a sidewalk, an illegal act. Mr. Lu, witnessing this, approached Mr. Huang and demanded that he delete the recorded images.

According to reports, Mr. Huang refused to delete the footage, leading to a heated exchange. In a fit of anger, Mr. Lu then forcibly took Mr. Huang's bicycle and rode away. Mr. Huang immediately contacted the police to report the incident.

Responding officers reviewed surveillance footage and located the bicycle, which Mr. Lu had abandoned nearby. Despite the bicycle's recovery, Mr. Huang insisted on pressing charges. Police apprehended Mr. Lu within two hours. He admitted to taking the bicycle because he was displeased that Mr. Huang had filmed his family's violation, possibly for reporting purposes. Mr. Lu has been transferred to the New Taipei District Prosecutors Office for investigation on charges of coercion.
