Elderly man with dementia found safe after riding motorcycle astray in Taiwan mountains

An 85-year-old man suffering from dementia went missing after leaving his home in Pingtung, Taiwan, stating he was going to "inspect his fields." The elderly man failed to return home, prompting a search by his concerned family.

Authorities were alerted to the disappearance, and police officers from the Liugui Precinct began an investigation. They reviewed surveillance footage and expanded their search area within their jurisdiction. Their efforts paid off when officers located the missing man the following day, July 13, on a mountain road in the Taoyuan District of Kaohsiung.

The man was found riding his motorcycle on the Fujizhi road at kilometer 16.4. Upon encountering the police, he appeared tired but was physically unharmed. Officers provided him with rest, food, and water at the police station.

His family, who had been anxiously awaiting news, was notified and rushed to pick him up. They expressed their profound gratitude to the Liugui police for their diligent and compassionate assistance in finding and safely returning their elderly relative. The police officially canceled the missing person alert after the family confirmed his safe return.
