Elderly woman dies 11 days after fatal crash on Queensland's Southern Downs

The 85-year-old was a passenger in a vehicle that reportedly swerved to avoid an oncoming car crossing into its lane on the New England Highway near Stanthorpe.

An 85-year-old Wallangarra woman has died 11 days after a crash in the Southern Downs that also claimed the life of a 92-year-old man.

The initial collision resulted in the death of a 92-year-old man at the scene, while the 85-year-old woman sustained critical injuries. She was transported to Stanthorpe Hospital before being airlifted to Gold Coast University Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries yesterday.

Authorities are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash. The driver of the MG SUV involved took evasive action, leading to the vehicle rolling multiple times after striking a culvert. The other vehicle, a gold Nissan Maxima, allegedly did not stop. Police have located the vehicle and its owner, who is assisting with inquiries, following a public appeal.
