Elected representative targeted in shooting attack in Colombia's Antioquia

An attack targeting newly elected Pacto Histórico representative Luz Verónica Estrada has shaken the political landscape in Antioquia, Colombia. Estrada's vehicle was struck by gunfire on Friday while she was traveling between the municipalities of Urrao and Betulia in the southwestern part of the department.

Alejandro Toro, a fellow Pacto Histórico representative, confirmed the incident, stating on social media that "men on motorcycles shot at her car." He urgently called for security guarantees for candidates, congress members, and leaders across the territories, adding, "We are playing with our lives here."

Despite the alarming nature of the attack, initial reports from the Antioquia Police Department indicated that Estrada was traveling in an armored vehicle and that the bullet impacted the bumper. Sources within the Pacto Histórico in Urrao confirmed that Estrada is safe and that the situation "did not escalate further," but cautioned, "we must be careful, the situation is getting very heavy."

The incident has raised concerns about the safety of political figures in the region, with calls for heightened security measures from various party members and officials.
