Election in Saxony-Anhalt: Eralp Says, “I Am the Answer for Saxony-Anhalt”

Elif Eralp, Die Linke’s lead candidate for Berlin’s state parliament election, called the result in Saxony-Anhalt “a historic break” and presented herself as an answer to the political shift.

Eralp, who serves as deputy leader of the party’s parliamentary group in Berlin and wants to become the city’s governing mayor, said she would campaign for an affordable Berlin. “I know that many people in Berlin are also afraid today. But I want to tell them all: You are not alone,” she said.

She said she stood for a Berlin where everyone could live an affordable and secure life in dignity, regardless of where they came from. The AfD was clearly ahead in initial projections from ARD and ZDF in the Saxony-Anhalt state election. Berlin is due to elect a new state parliament on Sept. 20.
