ELN rebels burn truck cabin on Buga-Buenaventura highway in Valle del Cauca

Armed assailants, believed to be members of the National Liberation Army (ELN), set fire to the cabin of a semi-trailer truck on a highway in Colombia's Valle del Cauca department. The incident took place in the early morning hours of July 3rd, on the road connecting Buga to the port city of Buenaventura, near a sector known as Bendiciones.

The truck, which was traveling from Buenaventura to Yumbo, was intercepted by the attackers. They forced the driver to halt the vehicle before igniting the truck's cab. Fortunately, the driver escaped unharmed, according to the Valle Police.

Authorities have identified the area as one where the ELN's 'Luis Carlos Cárdenas Arbeláez' front operates. The National Police, in coordination with the Navy, are conducting verification of the events and maintaining a presence on the road to ensure user safety and to identify and prosecute those responsible for the criminal act. The Police urged the public to provide any information that could aid the investigation.
