Embassy unveils Qu­aid’s statue in Washington

The Pakistan Embassy in Washington D.C. marked the nation's Independence Day with the unveiling of a statue of Quaid-i-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah, adding a significant historical dimension to the celebrations and underscoring the evolving Pakistan-United States relationship.

Ambassador Rizwan Saeed Sheikh inaugurated the statue during a ceremony attended by members of the Pakistani-American community, diplomats, and media representatives. The statue, a donation from the Quaid-i-Azam Foundation of Houston, will be permanently housed at the embassy. Its unveiling coincides with Pakistan's preparations to commemorate Jinnah's 150th birth anniversary later this year.

In his tribute, Ambassador Sheikh emphasized the nation's gratitude to Jinnah for his constitutional leadership and unwavering efforts that transformed the vision of Pakistan into a reality. He encouraged Pakistanis, especially those living abroad, to adhere to Jinnah's core principles: "Unity, Faith and Discipline."

The Independence Day ceremony commenced with the traditional hoisting of the national flag and the national anthem, followed by Quranic recitations and messages from Pakistan's president and prime minister. Ambassador Sheikh also used the occasion to stress Pakistan's continued importance to the U.S. and the global community. His remarks resonated with a message from U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who acknowledged bilateral cooperation in areas such as regional mediation, critical minerals, energy, counterterrorism, cultural heritage, and trade.
