Emergency safety alert issued for all of Toshima village in the Izu Islands

Toshima village in Tokyo’s Izu Islands issued an emergency safety alert for its entire area at 3 p.m. on Sept. 7, covering 182 households and 306 people.

The notice corresponds to Level 5, the highest of Japan’s five warning levels. It was issued as the risk of landslides increased during heavy rain.

The alert formed part of broader severe-weather warnings for the Izu Islands, where authorities also reported concern about a developing band of intense rainfall. Residents were urged to take action to protect their lives.
