Engine crankshaft defect poses fire risk: Nissan X-trail 1.5 recalled in Taiwan

Yulon Nissan has announced an expanded recall for its Nissan X-Trail 1.5 models manufactured and sold between July 2023 and February 2026. The recall addresses a potential defect in the engine crankshaft bearing, which could arise from material or manufacturing flaws.

According to the company, this defect may cause the bearing to malfunction over time. Owners might notice unusual engine noises, vibrations, warning lights on the dashboard, or difficulty starting the engine. In severe cases, the issue could lead to a loss of engine power, damage to the engine block, oil leakage, and potentially a fire hazard.

Nissan emphasized that no related incidents have been reported in Taiwan or any other global market. However, citing safety and quality concerns, the company is proactively recalling the affected vehicles. The recall process involves inspecting the engine oil pan for specific metal fragments and performing a free oil change, estimated to take about 0.8 hours. Additionally, the engine computer software will be updated, requiring approximately 0.5 hours. If metal fragments are detected in the oil, a complete engine replacement will be performed free of charge, a procedure estimated to take around 15 hours.
