Enjoy Namhangang River sunsets and music at 'Geonji Sunset Forest,' opening Aug. 28

Chungju City is set to unveil 'Geonji Sunset Forest,' a new experiential tourism facility designed to offer a tranquil escape. The grand opening is scheduled for August 28, with full operations commencing on September 21. Located in the Geonji Village area of Dongnyang-myeon, the facility is situated on Jideungsan Mountain, offering panoramic views of the Namhangang River and Chungju Lake.

The primary draw of Geonji Sunset Forest is its stunning natural scenery, particularly the sunsets and the shimmering 'yunseul' (sunlight reflecting on water) over the confluence of the Namhangang River and Chungju Lake. The location has gained recognition as a picturesque spot, even serving as a filming location for the drama 'Queen of Tears,' and is known as a prime location for sunset viewing and romantic proposals.

Constructed with a budget of approximately 13.79 billion won (around $10 million USD), the facility spans four floors. It includes a 166-square-meter multi-purpose room on the first floor, an emotional filling room (99.99 sqm) and a mind-filling room (166 sqm) on the second floor, a cafe (156.69 sqm) on the third, and a 178.9 sqm observation deck on the fourth. The emotional filling room is equipped with 14 turntables and a collection of 400 LPs, offering visitors a chance to listen to classic Korean pop, international hits, and classical music.

"Geonji Sunset Forest is, as the name suggests, a place where the sunset unfolds like a painting," said Woo Hyeong-geun, head of the tourism development team at Chungju City. "It is also an emotional space where one can empty and fill their mind through music and meditation alongside the sunset." The facility also provides lodging with eight rooms available for groups of three to six people, further enhancing its appeal as a retreat destination.
