'Enough with the blood libels': Danon decries Mamdani's labeling of Netanyahu as war criminal

Israel's Ambassador to the United Nations, Danny Danon, strongly denounced a statement by New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, who accused Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of being a "war criminal" responsible for alleged "genocide against the Palestinian people." Danon labeled Mamdani's remarks as "blood libels" and urged him to focus on serving New Yorkers rather than spreading "Hamas propaganda."

Former Prime Minister Naftali Bennett also condemned Mamdani's statement, asserting that the mayor aligned himself "on the wrong side of history - alongside those who deny October 7th and protested on campuses on October 8th in support of genocidal Hamas." Bennett criticized Mamdani for omitting any mention of Hamas when discussing Israel's actions in Gaza, emphasizing that Israel is engaged in a "just war against a terrorist organization" responsible for atrocities.

Former IDF chief of staff Gadi Eisenkot described Mamdani's statement as dangerous, inflammatory, and "pure antisemitism, with no basis in fact." Eisenkot highlighted the need for truth to prevail, especially in the face of terrorism, and referenced the horrors of September 11th in New York City. He characterized the October 7th Hamas attack as the deadliest act of terrorism and antisemitic violence against the Jewish people since the Holocaust.

Eisenkot decried Mamdani's "reckless distortion of the truth," stating that "no one can rewrite history and turn the aggressor into the victim." He affirmed that "nothing can obscure the atrocities committed by this abhorrent terrorist organization against civilians in their homes, in their own country" and asserted Israel's right to live in security. The defense of the IDF's conduct was also emphasized, with a clear stance against questioning Israel's right to self-defense.
