Entering Second Year, President Lee Prepares Cabinet Reshuffle Focusing on National Land and Welfare

President Lee Jae-myung is gearing up for a significant cabinet reshuffle as he enters his second year in office, with a strategic focus on national land development and welfare initiatives. This move is intended to accelerate the reform agenda, building upon the administration's accomplishments in politics and diplomacy during its inaugural year. Key achievements cited include the relocation of the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, the finalization of South Korea-U.S. tariff negotiations, the pursuit of nuclear-powered submarine construction, and the completion of the Blue House relocation.

The administration plans to expedite its second-year governance drive by replacing high-ranking officials in ministries and the Presidential Office. This includes nominating a successor for Prime Minister Kim Min-seok, who is expected to resign to run for the Democratic Party's national convention. The President is anticipated to announce his nominee for Prime Minister soon.

Among the individuals reportedly being considered for the Prime Minister position are Justice Minister Chung Sung-ho and Presidential Chief of Staff Kang Hoon-sik. Chung Sung-ho is seen as a strong contender due to his long-standing working relationship with President Lee and his moderate political stance. The reshuffle is expected to inject new momentum into the government's six major structural reform initiatives.
