Entertainment CEO arrested over alleged 30 billion won fraud

Cha Ga-won, the CEO of entertainment agency One Hundred, has been arrested and transferred to prosecutors on suspicion of fraud amounting to approximately 30 billion won. The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency's financial crime investigation unit announced on August 7 that Cha was sent to the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office on charges related to the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment of Specific Economic Crimes.

A court had previously issued an arrest warrant for Cha on August 3, citing a risk of evidence destruction. He is accused of soliciting business partnerships by leveraging the intellectual property rights of artists under his agency. Investigators allege that Cha received advance payments for these ventures but failed to proceed with the projects, leading to substantial financial losses for investors.

The alleged fraud involves a significant sum, reportedly reaching into the tens of billions of won. The case highlights concerns about financial misconduct within the entertainment industry, particularly regarding the exploitation of intellectual property and investor funds.
