Enugu gov approves recruitment of 6,580 teachers, school staff

Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah has greenlit the hiring of 6,580 individuals for various roles in public primary and junior secondary schools. This significant recruitment effort is primarily aimed at staffing the state's 267 newly established Smart Green Schools.

The job vacancy advertisement, issued by the Enugu State Universal Basic Education Board (ENSUBEB), highlights the government's commitment to bolstering its education strategy. The initiative seeks to provide the necessary human resources to drive the Smart Green School project and ensure quality education delivery across the state.

The recruitment drive encompasses a wide range of positions, including 4,698 core subject teachers in essential disciplines like Mathematics, English, and Science. Additionally, the board is looking to fill roles such as 520 digital librarians, 380 experiential learning innovators, and 267 each of guidance counselors, ICT staff, and laboratory attendants. Support staff like account officers and technicians are also being sought.

To qualify for teaching positions, candidates must hold a bachelor's degree in education, a degree with a Postgraduate Diploma in Education, or a Nigeria Certificate in Education in their respective subjects. Registration with the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria is mandatory. Requirements for non-teaching roles vary, with specific educational backgrounds needed for positions like library science, STEM, and psychology, while others may require an Ordinary National Diploma or SSCE/WASSCE. All applicants must possess a valid NYSC discharge or exemption certificate, and practical ICT proficiency is expected across all cadres.
