Enugu gov lauds DSS, Army, Police over seizure of ESN arms cache

Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah has lauded the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigerian Army, and the Nigeria Police Force for their contributions to enhancing security within the state and the broader South-East region. His commendation came on Friday after he inspected a significant cache of arms and ammunition seized by security operatives during a raid on an armoury allegedly belonging to the proscribed Eastern Security Network (ESN) in Enugu State.

The recovered weapons, displayed at the State DSS headquarters, included a rocket launcher, two RPG warheads, three RPG chargers, 11 AK-47 rifles, and over 610 rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition. The joint operation, involving DSS operatives and troops from the Nigerian Army’s 82 Division, also uncovered National Youth Service Corps uniforms and lanyards among the seized items.

Governor Mbah, accompanied by security chiefs and senior government officials, emphasized the importance of inter-agency cooperation, stating that their collective efforts have been instrumental in preventing attacks across the region. He highlighted that this intelligence-driven operation successfully averted what could have been coordinated assaults aimed at destabilizing Enugu and other South-East states.

"The recovered arms and ammunition would have been used by the ESN terrorists to wreak havoc across the South and paint a false picture that insecurity has taken over Nigeria," the governor remarked. He also urged all Nigerians, irrespective of their political or religious backgrounds, to support President Bola Tinubu's ongoing initiatives to combat insecurity nationwide.
