Enugu residents urged to prioritize electrical safety during rainy season

Enugu residents are being urged to take stringent electrical safety precautions as the rainy season intensifies, following heavy rainfall, windstorms, and flooding across the state. MainPower Electricity Distribution Ltd has issued a series of advisories to prevent electrocution, accidents, and property damage.

Emeka Ezeh, MainPower's Head of Communications, emphasized the importance of staying indoors or seeking safe shelter away from electrical infrastructure during downpours. He specifically warned against taking refuge under trees or standing near electricity poles and power lines, as strong winds can topple them, causing dangerous exposed conductors.

Ezeh also cautioned residents against touching electrical appliances, switches, or sockets with wet hands, highlighting the increased risk of electric shock. He stressed the need for proper insulation and regular maintenance of electrical installations in homes and businesses to prevent faults. Parents and guardians were specifically asked to keep children away from dangerous electrical locations.
