Enugu Senatorial By-election: Asogwa’s Landslide Victory Affirms APC’s Dominance, Says Gov Mbah

Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has declared the victory of Chief Ikeje Asogwa in the Enugu North Senatorial District by-election as a "statement victory" and a clear affirmation of the All Progressives Congress (APC)'s overwhelming acceptance and dominance in the state's political landscape.

On behalf of the Government and good people of Enugu State, I congratulate Chief Ikeje Asogwa on this resounding victory.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Asogwa the winner of the senatorial seat, which became vacant following the death of Labour Party Senator Okey Ezea in November 2025. The district encompasses six Local Government Areas: Nsukka, Igbo-Eze North, Igbo-Eze South, Uzo-Uwani, Igbo-Etiti, and Udenu.

It is a statement and landmark victory both for us as an administration and for the APC as a party.

Announcing the results early Sunday, the Returning Officer, Professor Christian Ezeibe, stated that Asogwa garnered an impressive 162,360 votes. His closest competitor, Nestor Ezeme of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), trailed significantly with 9,299 votes. This substantial margin of victory underscores the APC's strong performance in the region.

If anybody was in doubt, the landslide victory proves, beyond rhetoric, that APC has now emerged as the unquestionable dominant political force across the length and breadth of our state. Our people are fully aligned.

Governor Mbah extended his congratulations to Asogwa, emphasizing that the outcome demonstrates the people's alignment with the APC. He described Asogwa as a "people's champion" who has proven his commitment to serving his constituents and the state. The governor expressed confidence that Asogwa's presence in the national assembly will enhance the partnership between the state and federal governments, leading to more dividends of democracy for the people of Enugu State.
