Environment Minister Jumhur Hidayat Receives detikSumatera Award for Ecological Action

Environment Minister Mohammad Jumhur Hidayat has been honored with the detikSumatera Awards 2026, recognizing his role as a driver of ecological awareness and action in Sumatra. The award ceremony took place at the Grand Ballroom of Trans Hotel Jakarta.

Hidayat received the award in the category of "Pioneer of Transformation in Ecological Awareness and Action in Sumatra." The trophy was presented by Chairul Tanjung, Founder and Chairman of CT Corp. Hidayat was acknowledged for his consistent efforts in promoting environmental ethics, education, public awareness, and early habit changes.

During the event, Hidayat drew attention to the critical condition of mangrove ecosystems in Indragiri Hilir, Riau, which have suffered significant damage. He recounted a personal visit where he observed approximately 1,200 hectares of mangroves destroyed by irresponsible activities. "I have visited Sumatra several times, and most recently, I went to Indragiri Hilir. There is an area where about 1,200 hectares of mangroves are damaged due to irresponsible activities," Hidayat stated.

In response to this dire situation, Hidayat announced concrete steps being taken by his ministry. The Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLH) will partner with various stakeholders to restore the ecosystem. "Alhamdulillah, KLH is inviting several stakeholders to plant a minimum of 500 hectares, and potentially up to 1,000 hectares, to save the environment in Indragiri Hilir, Riau," Hidayat explained. He expressed hope that this replanting initiative would serve as a momentum for preserving ecological sustainability along Sumatra's coast and conveyed his gratitude for the appreciation from detikcom.
