Enzo Fernández says leaving Chelsea has been painful. “These have not been easy days for me. Writing this is not easy either. The reality is that I have not been well,” he wrote in a message confirming his move to Manchester City.

The Argentina midfielder arrived at Chelsea in January 2023 and said Cobham and Stamford Bridge had become a home for him and his family. He described growing with the club, its shirt and its badge, and said he had been determined from the start to bring Chelsea every trophy its history deserved.

The midfielder also addressed supporters who were unhappy about his departure. “I understand you. I truly understand you, from the bottom of my heart,” he wrote, saying he experienced football with passion and gave it everything he had.

Fernández called the transfer a difficult decision but said he understood the emotions involved. “Life is about making decisions and now I have had to make a very difficult one,” he said, thanking everyone who worked at Chelsea and telling the club’s supporters they would always remain in his heart.

After 170 matches, 31 goals and 30 assists for Chelsea, Fernández will move to another English city. At Manchester City, he will reunite with Italian coach Enzo Maresca, who previously coached him at Chelsea.
