Epa Colombia transferred to La Picaleña prison by presidential order

Colombian content creator Daneidy Barrera Rojas, widely known as 'Epa Colombia,' has been moved from a police facility in Bogotá to the La Picaleña prison complex in Ibagué. The decision was reportedly ordered by President Abelardo De La Espriella as one of his administration's initial actions concerning the penitentiary system.

The relocation stems from alleged reports of irregularities and special treatment during her confinement at the police academy. These reports include claims of clandestine cosmetic procedures performed on her, unauthorized mobile devices, and the presence of a luxury vehicle within the police premises. Epa Colombia is currently serving a sentence of five years and three months for charges including incitement to commit a crime, property damage, and public disturbance, related to her involvement in 2019 protests.

Before her transfer, Epa Colombia shared a video expressing feelings of being minimized, discriminated against, and humiliated, alleging she was being persecuted. Her move coincides with a broader prison system restructuring initiative by the state, which involves transferring 117 inmates from Itagüí prison to various high-security centers across Colombia to eliminate irregular benefits.

The transfer to La Picaleña prison is a significant development in the case of Epa Colombia, highlighting ongoing efforts by the new administration to reform the country's correctional facilities and address issues of privilege within the system.
